I have just baked my first loaf of bread, and I am SO excited to share! This is a SUPER simple recipe that can be made without kneading, without a mixing machine, and with just 4 ingredients. You can also customize it with whatever additional flavors you are looking for by adding anything from garlic to rosemary to thyme, raisins, cinnamon, cheese, and more. This is a GREAT one to learn how to make bread; we are going to be making a couple of loaves a week for our family with this one. Here’s how you can do it:
Basic Bread Recipe
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp yeast
- 1.5 cups warm water
- Mix everything together; it will be a very sticky mixture. Cover with plastic wrap until it doubles (mine took 3 hours).
- Flip the bowl out onto a floured sheet of wax paper, and form into a ball; place back into the bowl still on top of the wax paper and cover again while preheating. Preheat the oven to 425 with the dutch oven/oven safe pot with a lid (I used a cast iron skillet).
- Place the wax paper and the dough into the HOT pan, and cover. Bake for 30 minutes. Uncover, and bake an additional 15-30 minutes with NO COVER (just depending on how crusty you want the bread to be).
- Let cool, and slice. Round loaves are easiest to slice if you slice in half, place the cut edge down, and then cut into slices.
