I love fast food, but it does not love me. When I go to the grocery store and purchase a cart full of groceries for $3.28 (yup!), I cannot justify going out and getting $20 worth of cheeseburgers for the night. This one sided relationship that I have has led me to attempt to recreate some of my favorites. Pick Up Stix cream cheese wontons are definitely a treat in our house, and now that we know how to make them at home, I have found that we go to Pick Up Stix less often cook them all the time.
CREAM CHEESE WONTONS
4oz cream cheese (softened)
Wonton wrappers (about 20)
2 Tbl chopped green onions
2 Tbl minced regular onions
1 tsp minced garlic
salt and pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients together, and use a spoon to place about 1 tablespoon of the mixture into the center of the wonton wrapper. Wet your finger with water, and line the edges with water. This will allow them to stick together.
Take two opposing corners, and press them together. They will stick.
Take the other two corners, and press them together. Make sure that there are no openings for the yummy goodness to ooze out, as shown.
Place 2-3 at a time in fryer basket or in a sauce pan with a couple inches of hot oil for 2-3 minutes, until golden brown. If your oil does not fully submerge the wonton, make sure to flip it with tongs to get the whole thing crispy and amazing.
Making your own fast food at home is a great way to help to save money, and to control the quality of your food. I would recommend trying this recipe, and then making adaptations with some of your favorite ingredients!
