I absolutely love to cook, and I am pretty good at it too. However, at 5pm after working a long day with an infant who has refused to take his nap and a puppy that just never quits, sometimes it’s nice to not have to worry about dinner. I have tried several different meal delivery companies in the past several months (mostly due to lack of “oomph” as new parents), and I am still always comparing them to Hello Fresh. Their food is GOOD. Their meals are simple to make and satisfying, while still delivering the “wow factor” that I live for when cooking. I love the fact that their meals come when they say they will, and everything is really COLD. I don’t know why, but the thought of my pork being taken out of refrigeration overnight and then sitting on my doorstep for a couple of hours just doesn’t instill confidence, yet the meat was still icy while the produce was fresh. Also, everything is grouped into nice little packages for cooking. There are other companies that throw everything into a box, and then you unload that into the refrigerator. That’s one of the reasons that I want a meal service, is so that I don’t have to dig through my fridge to find things! I love getting Hello Fresh meals on a monthly basis; it really helps with the month-end rushing around that seems inevitable in our home, and lets us still have delicious, home cooked meals that are easy to make and balanced. It also is a team effort, and there is a fun, novelty-feeling to these so the whole family can jump in! This week, I received Pork Bulgogi Meatballs, Brown Butter Rigatoni, and Yucatan Citrus Chicken Bowls.

Here’s the box that the recipes show up in, and I just stick those in the fridge. The meat is separate, so you can put those in the fridge or freezer. Everything is inside this magical box except oil, salt, and pepper, so you don’t need anything but what they send to make a very impressive dinner.

Pork Bulgogi Meatballs with Carrots & Zucchini over Rice

 

These were super simple to make, but packed with flavor. The sweet and spicy sauce on the meatballs was delicious, with little pops of green onion, and the whole thing had tons of veggies and rice alongside it. I love learning about new sauces and spices, and this one was perfect for a spicy Korean entree.

Brown Butter Rigatoni with Asparagus, Walnuts & Lemony Ricotta

 

We opted for a meatless meal in this box; there are so many options to choose from and between all of the rich cheese and the hearty walnuts, my husband didn’t even notice that there was no meat. This one had a delicious cheesy-lemony sauce, and I LOVED the dollops of lemony-ricotta all over the pasta. Super yummy, and one we will definitely be making again using the recipe that they sent.

Yucatan Citrus Chicken Bowls with Poblano, Smoky Red Pepper Crema & Pickled Onion

  

This one was definitely my favorite. This had a spicy  rice, and marinated chicken. There were lots of fresh veggies, and the pickled onions added such a pop of flavor. I didn’t know how easy these were to make, so I am excited to add those to my meals in the future. Between the creamy red pepper crema and cilantro there were lots of bright flavors, and this one was a hit in our home.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend the service. Their customer service is exceptional, and they have been very helpful with any kind of account issues that I have had. The meals come when they are supposed to, exactly how I would expect them from going to the grocery store. They are fun to make, and delicious to eat. I don’t think that I will be getting this one on a weekly basis, but on a monthly one is definitely worth it for me.
