I’m going to need you to sit down for this one; it’s a biggie. There is a company that will allow you to make your bill/mortgage/rent/loan payments through them, with your credit card, or debit card, and have it go to the company you send it to as a “check”. This is incredible if you are short on funds, payday is delayed, you have sudden expenses, etc, as it keeps you from having to have a hefty fee IF the company even accepts credit card payments, and it also keeps you away from cash advance fees from your credit card as well (more on this in a minute). In addition, if you are trying to build up points/miles/cash back, this could be a good option if your rate of return is a couple percent or more. However, regardless of the reason that you will start using this on a regular basis, there is an INCREDIBLE sign up offer going on right now. Plastiq is offering new users $500 (yes, five hundred dollars) in “fee-free dollars” when you use their site for the first time, and send at least $500 in payments. They are also offering you $1000 in “fee-free money” to refer your family as well, for anyone who refers someone within these next couple of days. Plastiq charges you 2.5% to do this transaction on a credit card (again, MUCH less than the alternative fees), or 1% to use a debit card. In addition, the money that they give you is in the form of a credit that you can send to your bills/mortgage/loans/etc with NO fee attached to that credit; it is a full $500 of fee-free transactions, free and clear, just for using this link (mobile users use code 655948). That means that you could $500 from your credit card, and get the spending incentive from your credit card (miles/points/cash back/etc), and you wouldn’t have to pay any kind of a fee to do it! That could mean some serious credit card incentives that you can earn (or could mean that this will get you out of a tight spot on the cheap!).
So how do you jump on this? Here are some things to keep in mind when you do your transaction that I have learned in setting this up. First, if you can do a debit card, that is probably the easiest thing to do. Make a payment of at least $500 to a utility/cell phone/etc that does not need to arrive within the next week; it says that their checks take 5-7 days to arrive. I paid my trash bill with my debit card, which only cost me 1% to do. If you are going to use a credit card, you want to make sure that for some off the wall reason they DON’T see this as a cash advance. I would recommend contacting the credit card company and letting them know that you do not want the ability to take a cash advance, and they will just be able to turn that off so you won’t run into any issues. It will also take about 24 hours for the credit to be reflected in your account, but if you go to your account’s rewards section, you will see that the referral credit has been listed to show up once you have the payment issued, as shown below. (Also, some users show 200FFD {$200 in Fee Free Dollars}, but the promo will reflect $500 once it posts to your account.)
The funds hit my account the day after sending payment, and then looked like this, and were able to be applied to send to another payment!!!
As with any referral program, they can end it at any time. I would recommend spending the money as quickly as you get it, even if that means prepaying your utilities, sending out an extra rent/car payment, etc; don’t leave YOUR MONEY in someone else’s hands. Let me know if you have any questions, and how it works out for you!!!
