In this video, I’ll walk you through a full day in the life of owning backyard chickens—from daily feeding routines to weekly coop clean-outs. Whether you’re a first-time chicken owner or just thinking about starting your own flock, this behind-the-scenes look will give you a realistic idea of the time, tools, and love that go into keeping backyard chickens healthy and productive.
In this video, I’m giving you a real-life look at what backyard chicken care actually involves—both on a daily and weekly basis. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to keep chickens happy, healthy, and laying eggs, this is the video for you. I’ll walk you through my full routine, starting with the daily chores I do every morning: measuring out the right amount of organic grain and mealworm treats, feeding the hens, checking and adjusting their food placement, gathering fresh eggs, and inspecting the coop for cleanliness. You’ll meet my small flock and find out which hen is currently laying, plus I’ll share some of the products I use (like my favorite grain mix and water system) and link them for easy access.
After we cover the daily tasks, I move into my weekend maintenance routine. This is when I take extra time to refresh the coop by adding clean bedding, replacing straw in the nesting boxes, topping off oyster shell and grit for strong eggs and good digestion, and deep-cleaning the water container. I also show you how I reuse the soiled bedding as a natural fertilizer for my garden—turning chicken chores into garden gold!
Along the way, you’ll get practical tips on how often to perform each task, which ones are must-dos every day, and which can be saved for weekends. I also share a few time-saving tools I’m adding to my setup—like an automatic chicken door—so be sure to subscribe if you want to see that install in a future video. Whether you’re a new chicken owner or just thinking about starting a flock, this video gives you a realistic overview of the care and commitment involved, with helpful advice you can use right away.
