How We Upgraded To A KING Bed For $600 (Frame, Mattress, Sheets, & More)!!!

I am so excited to share this one! With our larger family and kids that frequently end up in our bed, we NEEDED to move to a king size bed. With a bed frame that was “ok”, and a mattress that was “ok”, it was hard to justify the $2000+ cost that we had seen in mattress/furniture stores to make the change. That’s where the amazing Amazon comes in! We went to mattress stores to find out what kind of mattress we wanted, and then went shopping. I found that the best one was a Hybrid Memory Foam Pocket Spring Mattress. What that means is that the mattress has the springs that you would normally find, but each is wrapped in a “pocket” and then the remainder of the bed is made out of memory foam. That lets it have a nice firmness to it so you don’t sink into the bed, as well as a nice softness that you get from the spring combo. I would describe this mattress as a “medium firm” mattress, exactly what we were looking for in the mattress stores that was $1600 in stores, and at the time of this post, just $363 with free shipping (ours was on sale for $295 at the time of purchase). We ordered this and a large box appeared that was super easy to unroll and “decompress” within just a few minutes.

For the bed frame, we have always had a wooden frame, and were really looking for something a bit sturdier that wouldn’t need to be repaired as we had done with our previous bed. I also wanted one that was setup to NOT NEED a box spring; I didn’t realize that you don’t need box springs on modern mattress/bed frames. We came across this bed frame, which took about 20 minutes to fully assemble and ran just $206 at the time of this post. This gave us plenty of clearance underneath for much needed storage, a comfy upholstered headboard, and a sleek look, plus a max weight of 700 pounds with the sturdy metal frame. Everything was shipped inside of the headboard and magically comes out to be assembled, and all of the necessary tools are included in the box.

I also did some research on bedding, as I really wanted the “hotel bedding” experience. If you are interested in this, the secret is that you will need a duvet cover. This is like a cover for your comforter that will give you the extra plush amazingness from hotel bedding. The duvet cover should be cotton, the duvet itself should be down or down alternative, and the sheets should be microfiber or cotton 2200-400 thread count. With this information in mind, we purchased the following items:
Luxury 6 Piece Bed Sheet Set  reg $99, sale $29.99
Bari 4-Pc. King Sheet Set, 350 Thread Count Cotton Blend  (second sheet set)  reg $120,  sale $23.04
Royal Luxe Lightweight Microfiber Color Down Alternative Twin Comforter, Hypoallergenic Polyester Fiberfill  reg $120,  sale $19.99
Vintage Washed Cotton Percale 3-Piece King Duvet Cover Set in Shadow Gray (the BIGGEST thing for a “hotel bed”) reg $60,  sale $23.98

That means from top to bottom for a mattress, bed frame, sheets, duvet, and duvet cover, we spent $600 EVERYTHING! That’s a GREAT discount, especially since the mattress alone would have run triple that price. We have been using it now for about 6 months, and LOVE it. There is so much space for us (ok, the kids….), and it feels just like that soothing-comfort that you get with a hotel bed while traveling. Overall I have been very happy with the whole experience and would highly recommend looking into grabbing everything online and having it shipped to your door. Check it out here:
